Introduction

World ShootOut is a global underwater photography competition, open to amateur, young or professional photographers and videographers. The competition consists of two main sections:

  • Real-Time ShootOut - Participate in a global real-time underwater photo shoot out, which takes place during January 1st - November 1st, 2016. Enjoy complete freedom of choosing your own dive destination anywhere around the world and submit your best images to the 7 Real-Time ShootOut categories.
    • Video Clips of the World – You can stay at home and still take part in the competition! Select your best and most impressive video clips, taken anytime and anywhere in the world, and submit them to the Video Clips of the World category. 

    Competition registration is open!
    Registration can be carried out until November 1st, 2016.

    Participation Fees

    Participation fees are submitted by category as following:

    • Wide Angle - 25 Euro
    • Macro & Super-Macro - 25 Euro

    • Underwater Photography Global Championship - 25 Euro

    Video Clips of the World

    • Underwater Video Clip – 45 Euro

    Participation Fees Notes
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    • Please note that up to 3 sets of images can be submitted to each of these categories, and therefore each participant can register for up to 3 sets of images per category.
    • Submission fee for each category is listed on the section above.
    • Submission fee for each additional set of images (up to 3 sets) on each of the categories is 10 Euro.
    • Cancellation Policy: Any participant withdrawing from registration before October 2nd 2016 will receive a full refund of submission fees.

    Competition Images Submission

    Real-Time ShootOut
    1. Images submitted to any of the categories should comply with all category requirements, as described in details on the Competition Categories page.
    2. Final images can be submitted until November 1st, 2016.
    3. Images submitted to the competition should be uploaded through the competition website, using the username and password provided upon registration. Images should be uploaded in JPEG format only and must not exceed a file size of 500KB.
    4. Participants reaching semi-final stages during the judging process will be asked to provide original image files in RAW and JPEG using any of the online transfer services. Note that these files are requested for validation purposes and participants who fail to provide these original files as requested will be disqualified. 

  • Video Clips of the World

    1. Video Clips submitted should comply with all category requirements, as described in details on the Competition Categories page.
    2. Final videos can be submitted until November 1st, 2016. Although the process of uploading files to the website is simple and takes only a short while, please make sure it is completed ahead of time in order to avoid any last-minute problems.
    3. Video Clips submitted to the competition should be uploaded through the competition website, using the username and password provided upon registration.
    4. Participants reaching semi-final stages during the judging process will be asked to send their video clip files to the production office using any of the online download services ( DropBox , Jambo Mail, HighTail, Wetransfer ).

    General Rules

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Real-Time ShootOut

    1. Only images featuring the date January 1st - November 1st, 2016 will be accepted for the competition.
    2. Competition registration and submitting images must be completed through the competition website no later than Tuesday, November 1st, 2016.
    3. Upon registering to the competition, each participant will receive a participation number, which later on should be used in order to login and upload the images submitted to the competition.
    4. Participants must read the “Rules & Regulations” section prior to registering to the competition. Upon submitting the registration form and submitting images to the competition, participants confirm their agreement with these rules and regulations.
    5. All competition categories are open to all participants, aside from one exception, according to which images taken with DSLR cameras or by photographers regularly using DSLR systems to capture their images, cannot be submitted to the Amateurs category.
    6. Images submitted to any of the categories should comply with all category requirements, as described in details on the Competition Categories page.
    7. Images submitted to the competition may be taken during day or night.
    8. Images submitted to the competition must be taken either underwater or half-half.
    9. Images submitted to the Underwater Photography Global Championship cannot be submitted to other World ShootOut categories.
    10. Participants must shoot in RAW format in addition to corresponding JPEG files (please consult with the organizers upon registration if this option is not available for you).
    11. Minor enhancements of photos using imaging software, such as color, contrast enhancements and backscatter removal, are permitted. Image editing that alters the main content of the photo, such as moving, removing objects and/or implanting foreign elements, is not permitted.
    12. Any photo revealed as been altered will be disqualified and the photographer himself may also be disqualified. The organizers and the judges have the authority to determine whether a photo has been manipulated according to their judgment. The decision of the Jury to disqualify a photo or a photographer is final and undisputable.
    13. Upon registering to the competition, each participant is asked to sign an environmental conservation commitment form, according to which he/she are obligated to follow environmental conservation regulations and to share respect for the underwater world during the process of taking images, wherever they might be diving. As per this commitment form, the photographer understands that he/she are the only one responsible for their behavior underwater while capturing images. Any damage to the protected underwater world, including the disruption of the natural habitat of creatures, provocation through touching, feeding or annoying, is prohibited by law and might disqualify the images or the photographer.  
    14. During November, the first judgment phase will take place, resulting with 15 or more finalists within each category.
    Participants who have reached these semi-final stages will be asked to provide original image files in RAW and JPEG using any of the online transfer services. Note that these files are requested for validation purposes and participants who fail to provide these original files as requested will be disqualified.

    15. All World Shoot-Out winners and nominees will be announced on a festive winning ceremony which takes place on Friday, January 27, 2017 14-15 pm, at the boot Düsseldorf dive show in Germany. World ShootOut participants who do not make it to the boot Dive Show will receive their prizes by mail and post.
    16. Competition organizers will take the utmost care in handling digital files submitted to the competition. However, competition organizers will not be held responsible for any loss of the submitted material at the time of uploading images through the competition website or at the time of the competition itself.
    17.  Upon registering to the competition, each participant is asked to sign an environmental conservation commitment form, according to which he/she are obligated to follow environmental conservation regulations and to share respect for the underwater world during the process of taking images, wherever they might be diving. As per this commitment form, the photographer understands that he/she are the only one responsible for their behavior underwater while capturing images. Any damage to the protected underwater world, including the disruption of the natural habitat of creatures, provocation through touching, feeding or annoying, is prohibited by law and might disqualify the images or the photographer. 
    18. The production encourages the participation of all photographers in the competition but reserves the right not to accept the participation of a photographer who does not comply with the spirit of the competition.
    19. The production is entitled to disqualify a participant who acts against the rules, displays undue conduct, has caused harm to another participant, or acted in any way that is contradictory to the spirit of the competition, as well as any other reason that the production team deems fit. The decision to remove a participant from the competition is final, undisputable, and does not entitle the participant to receive compensation or refund of any kind.
    20. It is absolutely forbidden to make any kind of barters between photographers and to submit photos in one's own name but which another photographer has taken. The competition is conducted individually and rules of ethics must be adhered to.
    21. Legal issues of any kind that result in lawsuits shall be solely held at the Tel Aviv Courthouse.

     

    Video Clips of the World

      Prizes

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 

    • The final list of prizes will be published on the competition website only on January 1st, 2017. Prizes published prior to this date may vary and cannot be considered as final.
    • Corresponding prizes are awarded to the winners in person and only the winners themselves are permitted to make use of them. It is prohibited to attempt selling prizes.
    • Dive safaris and trips awarded as prizes do not include air travel, taxes and other expenses, unless stated otherwise by the relevant sponsor.
    • Prizes do not include shipment and potential import tax fees in the respective home countries of participants.
    • For the sake of eliminating possible misunderstandings, at the time of the winning ceremony, only symbolic vouchers or letters will be awarded to the winners. The actual prize will be awarded later on in accordance with the respective sponsor.
    • A participant who has already won the same category twice in previous competitions is excluded from participating in the same category again for the 3 following years. He/she may, however, participate in other competition categories during those 3 years. Once 3 years have past since the last prize has been awarded, the participant can register to this category again.

    Use of Photographs

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    • By enrolling the competition, participants agree that the submitted photos and videos in all categories may be used or reproduced for the media coverage of this event and for the promotion of future competitions in all media channels, including TV, Internet, written publications and more.
    • Competition organizers reserve the right to make use of images and videos submitted to the competition for the purpose of publishing a competition album, calendars, and any other use that promotes future competitions or found useful by the production.
    • Submitted materials shall indefinitely remain in the producers' archives without the requirement of further permission for usage.
    • Photo and video credits will be given to the photographer when applicable.
    • Submission of materials and participation in the competition entails an automatic acceptance of all the above.
    • Use of images as described above will require no additional written or verbal permissions from the photographer.

    Rights of Materials

    I hereby declare that I'm the rightful owner of all the copyrights to the aforementioned video/image. This video/image was produced by me, including the featured soundtrack, and I own the rights to sell, distribute, rent or broadcast it in any way or form, including private and commercial use, anywhere in the world. I declare that I will be liable for any damage, loss or expense that will result of using these materials according to my aforementioned declaration.

     

    Signing the official competition registration form states the photographer’s agreement to the rules stated above.

    Personal Safety

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

     

    Participants are responsible for their own safety and for the proper use of their diving and photography equipment. Divers must dive within the limits of their own dive certification level and according to the local diving regulations (remember to bring your dive certification and diving insurance along). Competition organizers and sponsors do not accept responsibility for the safety of participants during their diving activity, nor do they accept responsibility for any damage to personal equipment that may occur as a result of diving activities. Dive Safely!
