Children of World ShootOut Category

Your kids are glued to the TV? Looking for a joint, creative and nature-exploring adventure?

This is the perfect opportunity to head out for a family vacation and to take part in the Children of World Shoot-Out competition!


Children from all over the world, accompanied by their parents, are invited to participate in this universal underwater photo festival, now introducing a category that was especially designed for the young ones - the Children of World Shoot-Out . Provide your children with the opportunity of expressing their motivation, creativity and appreciation of nature. No previous experience is required!


5 of these young talents will be joining the happy winners of the World Shoot-Out underwater photo grand prix and will be awarded with prizes which will soon be announced.


Who’s allowed to participate in the Children of World Shoot-Out?

  • Children at the age of 7-12 from all over the world are all invited to join this category.
  • All children taking part in the competition will be photographing while snorkelling in shallow water, no previous experience is required.
  • Images submitted to this category should be taken with a compact digital camera accommodated inside an underwater housing or with a waterproof compact digital camera.


Competition Schedule & Location

  • The Children of World Shoot-Out will take place during August 1-31, 2012.
  • Children can participate by snorkelling and photographing in any natural water resource around the world, including lakes, oceans, seas, rivers and more.

Competition Registration

  • Registration is carried out through the official competition website – Click Here
  • Final registration day is Friday, August 31st, 2012.
  • A scan of the child’s ID or passport, in which his/her birth date is listed, is required during registration for the purpose of age validation.
  • During registration, each child will receive a participant number. This number will be required later on for the purpose of submitting images through the competition website.

Essential Preparations

  • Participants must access their e-mail account and/or the competition website before the competition begins for the purpose of receiving last and essential guidelines.
  • Prior to capturing competition images, participants will be asked to select a different year for the date set on the camera. The specific year the camera date should be set to will be published on the competition website and sent to all participants by e-mail on July 31st, 2012.

Daily Backups

  • Children must back up all of their images at the end of each diving day. Each day should be saved inside a different folder on the backup file, labelled by date (for instance: 01-08-2015).
  • Please make sure you do not lose these backup files till the winners are announced on November, 2012.
  • On September 5th, the first judgment phase will conclude and result with 20 finalists. Any child reaching this semi-final stage will be contacted and asked to submit his/her backup files by sending them on a CD to the competition office.
  • It is prohibited to delete photos from the memory card during shooting.
  • Failure to introduce a complete backup file will disqualify the photographer from the competition.


Competition Images Submission

  • Each child should choose his/her best 5 underwater images and to submit them to the competition by uploading them to the competition website.
  • Only images that were captured by the registered child during the month of August, 2012, can be submitted to the competition.
  • Images submitted should be uploaded in JPEG format only and must not exceed a file size of 500KB.
  • Images can be uploaded and submitted during the whole month of August.
  • Final submission date is August 31st, 2012.


  • Final judgment will be carried out in November, 2012, during the Epson Red Sea 2012 competition in Eilat.
  • The international jury panel includes 3 children, guided by a professional adult judge.
  • The jury panel will first select the best image out of the 5 images submitted by each participant, and will eventually decide upon the 5 winners.
  • The decisions of the Jury are final in all aspects of the competition and may not be challenged. Announcing the Winners
  • All winners will be announced on November 9th, 2012, during the festive World ShootOut 2012 winning ceremony, which takes place in Eilat, Israel.
  • The winning ceremony will be live broadcasted online.
  • Ceremony time and online link will be published at the beginning of November, 2012.




Each of the 5 winners will be awarded with a:

  • Sealife ReefMaster Mini 2 camera, courtesy of Sealife

  • A full snorkeling kit, including a shorty, mask, fins and snorkel, courtesy of Subgear


Rules & Regulations


Registering to the competition automatically implies the photographer’s agreement and acceptance of all competition rules as set and stated by the competition production.

  1. Please make sure you have set the date of your camera to the year announced on the competition website on August 1st, 2012, prior to taking competition images. For instance, if the date published on the World ShootOut website on August 1st is 2016, you should set the camera date to 01/08/2016 prior to capturing any competition images on August 1st. Please note that only images featuring this random date will be accepted to the competition.
  2. Upon planning your holiday or diving trip, please make sure you have internet access prior to the end of August for the purpose of submitting your images to the competition, as images submission is carried out through the competition website.
  3. Images submitted should comply with all category requirements, as described in details above.
  4. Final images can be submitted until September 3rd, 2012. Although the process of uploading final images to the website is simple and takes only a short while, please make sure it is completed ahead of time in order to avoid any last-minute problems.
  5. Images submitted to the competition should be uploaded through the competition website, using the username and password provided upon registration. Images should be uploaded in JPEG format only and must not exceed a file size of 500KB.
  6. Participants reaching semi-final stages during the judging process will be asked to burn their backup files on a CD/DVD and will be asked to send this CD to the production office for the purpose of legal validation.

  7. Competition registration must be completed through the competition website no later than August 31st, 2012.
  8. Upon registering to the competition, each participant will receive a participation number, username and password, which later on should be used in order to login and upload the images submitted to the competition.
  9. Participants must read the “Rules & Regulations” section prior to registering to the competition. Upon submitting the registration form and submitting images to the competition, participants confirm their agreement with these rules and regulations.
  10. Images submitted to the competition may be taken during day or night.
  11. Images submitted to the competition must be taken either underwater or half-half.
  12. It is prohibited to carry out any alternations whatsoever in the original file using Photoshop or any other imaging software. Any photo revealed as been altered will be disqualified and the photographer himself may also be disqualified. The organizers and the judges have the authority to determine whether a photo has been manipulated according to their judgment. The decision of the Jury to disqualify a photo or a photographer is final and undisputable.
  13. It is prohibited to delete photos from the memory card during shooting. Files might be all kept on the memory card until the entire and complete sequence is downloaded onto the daily backup file. All images produced underwater, including all missed shots, must appear in an uninterrupted sequence on the daily backup file.
  14. Participants must back up all of their images at the end of each diving day. Each day should be saved inside a different folder on the backup file, labeled by date (for instance: 01-08-2015). JPEG and their corresponding RAW files should be saved within the same folder. Please make sure you do not lose these backup files till the winners are announced.
  15. Final judgment, during which 5 nominees and 3 winners are decided upon within each category, will take place in November 4-10, 2012, throughout the Epson Red Sea event in Eilat.
  16. All World ShootOut categories winners and nominees will be announced on the festive Epson Red Sea winning ceremony in Eilat, Israel, November 9th, 2012. World ShootOut participants who do not make it to the Eilat Shoot-Out and the winning ceremony will receive their prizes by mail.
  17. Competition organizers will take the utmost care in handling digital files submitted to the competition. However, competition organizers will not be held responsible for any loss of the submitted material at the time of uploading images through the competition website or at the time of the competition itself.
  18. Participants are obligated to follow environmental conservation regulations and to share respect for the underwater world during the process of taking images, wherever they might be diving. Be advised that any damage to the protected underwater world, including the disruption of the natural habitat of creatures, provocation through touching, feeding or annoying, is prohibited by law and will disqualify the images or the photographer.
  19. The final deadline for submitting images to the different categories is Monday, September 3rd, 2012, at 23:55 pm GMT +2.
  20. The production encourages the participation of all photographers in the competition but reserves the right not to accept the participation of a photographer who does not comply with the spirit of the competition.
  21. The production is entitled to disqualify a participant who acts against the rules, displays undue conduct, has caused harm to another participant, or acted in any way that is contradictory to the spirit of the competition, as well as any other reason that the production team deems fit. The decision to remove a participant from the competition is final, undisputable, and does not entitle the participant to receive compensation or refund of any kind.
  22. It is absolutely forbidden to make any kind of barters between photographers and to submit photos in one's own name but which another photographer has taken. The competition is conducted individually and rules of ethics must be adhered to.
  23. Legal issues of any kind that result in lawsuits shall be solely held at the Tel Aviv Courthouse.


Use of Photographs

  • By enrolling the competition, participants agree that the submitted photos and videos in all categories may be used or reproduced for the media coverage of this event and for the promotion of future competitions in all media channels, including TV, Internet, written publications and more.
  • Competition organizers reserve the right to make use of images and videos submitted to the competition for the purpose of publishing a competition album, calendars, and any other use that promotes future competitions or found useful by the production.
  • Submitted materials shall indefinitely remain in the producers' archives without the requirement of further permission for usage.
  • Photo and video credits will be given to the photographer when applicable.
  • Submission of materials and participation in the competition entails an automatic acceptance of all the above.
  • Use of images as described above will require no additional written or verbal permissions from the photographer.

Rights of Materials


I hereby declare that I'm the rightful owner of all the copyrights to the aforementioned video/image. This video/image was produced by me, including the featured soundtrack, and I own the rights to sell, distribute, rent or broadcast it in any way or form, including private and commercial use, anywhere in the world. I declare that I will be liable for any damage, loss or expense that will result of using these materials according to my aforementioned declaration.


Signing the official competition registration form states the photographer’s agreement to the rules stated above.


Personal Safety

Participants are responsible for their own safety and for the proper use of their diving and photography equipment. Divers must dive within the limits of their own dive certification level and according to the local diving regulations (remember to bring your dive certification and diving insurance along). Competition organizers and sponsors do not accept responsibility for the safety of participants during their diving activity, nor do they accept responsibility for any damage to personal equipment that may occur as a result of diving activities.
